Hi there ! (yikes, this is Hilary Stookey - I didn't expect that as a sign-in name, will have to change it)
Wow. So long since we saw you.... And to think: you were in Newport this summer? It was lovely, catching up on your news. Chris and Will have done such a lot - and to have great jobs like those in this economy? It shows just how special they are. Congrats from all of us!
Reading your blog has been lots of fun. Especially those shots of Vail (Ben was at college in Boulder - we thought he might never return to NE) and I loved the pictures of the Czech bike trip. Boy. We've slowed down here :) The boys haven't, which is nice. Pash is taking a Criminal Justice course at New England Tech, will graduate this May, and he is also working back at St. Michael's with the younger ones+coaching sports. Alex is working with a landscaping company over in Wayland, MA + taking courses they sponsor him for. And Ben? He's on a little 26" Nonesuch and coming YOUR way! He bought "Swallow" up in Myrtle Beach and has been taking her south, sometimes inside the IntraCoastal and sometimes outside. Plans to winter in the Keys. Fortunately he also has a job (!), a virtual one working for the non-profit AASHE. Now he says he's got a very good eco-friendly footprint too :)
He leaves St. Augustine this Saturday (his birthday actually, the 24th) and hopes to be in the Lake Worth area in about a week. He's staying in the Intracoastal for this section as he's on his own. Just him, "Swallow" and a pretty small engine. His e-mail is: ben.stookey@gmail.com and his cellphone # 860-213-1672.
I sure hope you're around? What a wonderful coincidence to get this Xmas card from you at this very moment. We'll keep our fingers crossed that you all meet up. He has to put some solar panels on Swallow somewhere down there, maybe Ft. Lauderdale. Plus he has developed an idea for building a very simple collapsible dinghy, so he needs to stop somewhere, get some wood and work on that too. I must say despite all those thousands of miles we did as a family on Peregrine, I hold my breath when he's offshore. So the next week on the IntraCoastal will at least mean I can breath regularly through Christmas which will be nice, ha! :)
My love to you all, and a fine New Year ahead ~ xxx Hilary
ps. Seen the Beebes again recently, after ages out of touch. We all tried to prevent Queen Anne Square from basically being handed over to the NRF by the Council, which unfortunately voted 5-1 on Dec 14th to do so. By the time you come back.....those foundations may be in place. Faux chimney et al.
